How Talkish works

Talkish is currently in development. Screens and features may change before launch.

1. Create your profile

First, you sign up with your phone number. No password to remember — just enter the verification code you receive.

Next, set your native language, the language you want to learn, and the topics you're interested in. These are what we use to help you find people later.

2. Find someone to talk to

Once your profile is set up, head to Discover to find people to talk with. You can search by language pair — what they speak, what they're learning — or by shared interests.

You can also see a rough sense of the other person's level, so you're less likely to end up in an awkward mismatch.

3. Start the conversation

Once you've found someone, you can chat by text or voice. If you don't understand a message, you can translate it right there — no switching over to a dictionary app.

Corrections from the other person come with a short note on why. Talkish is built on the idea that you don't have to be perfect.

4. Post on the timeline

One-on-one conversation can feel like a lot at first. If that's you, start by posting something short on the timeline, in the language you're learning. Native speakers will leave corrections and comments.

Corrections on your posts get saved as review cards too, just like in chat. It's a low-pressure way to start a conversation before going one-on-one.

5. Every conversation becomes a lesson

Phrases that come up in chat or on the timeline, and any corrections you get, are automatically turned into review cards — we call them Passages. Each one keeps a link back to the conversation it came from, so you remember it along with the moment.

Talkish handles the timing of your reviews. You just open the app and flip through them.
